Classics
Latin is studied in Riley and can be continued throughout the school. The benefits of studying Latin are to aid with more complex language work in other subjects, especially in the sixth form; to develop an understanding of literature in a very detailed way; to continue to immerse oneself in a culture that is recognisable but at the same time strikingly different to our own.
After GCSE the study of Latin is supplemented by Classical Civilisation, which follows a broader study of the Classical World based on literature in translation.
The nature of the Classical subjects makes them ideal combinations for a number of courses, whether science or humanity-based.
