Computing
Computers and useful information technology devices are all around us. Computing is an exciting and rapidly changing subject. All pupils in 1J to 3rd form study Computing. These courses are a mixture of skills using common software packages, technical knowledge about the computer hardware and an introduction to computer programming.
GCSE Computing may be studied at 4th and 5th form and provides a course which is interesting and a good academic challenge. The course aims to provide advanced knowledge of software packages, hardware, programming as well as entry into both Sixth Form courses offered by the department – Higher Information Systems and A-Level Computing.
We aim to help pupils cope with the increasing complexity of today’s world, by challenging them to solve problems which lead to a computer based solution and thus see the full capability of the hardware and software around us.
Pupils will learn how computers are used in everyday life, how general purpose packages and computer systems work, how to write computer software, and how to use and understand network’s and the Internet.
