Religious Education
In a world increasingly driven by materialism on the one hand, and religious extremism on the other, the study of religious belief and of our own spiritual capacity becomes increasingly vital and exciting.
Religious Education, termed in the Scottish curriculum Religious, Moral, and Philosophical Studies, examines humanity’s search for meaning, and encourages pupils to consider the roots of their being, the moral imperatives by which they live, and the ethical debates which surround and inform our lives today.
This is a complex and endlessly fascinating subject. That it is not easy to understand merely spurs us on to better teaching; for if you can’t explain something to a child, you don’t fully understand it yourself.
