Angling & Fly Tying Club

In order to encourage and promote participation in Angling, the School runs an informal Angling Club predominantly, but not exclusively, in the Summer Term.
The exciting news for the forthcoming season in 2012 is that the School Pond, refurbished over the last year, will be stocked again with Trout to allow our School anglers to have a very local venue for both fishing and fly-casting practice.
Fly casting tuition during the Summer Term 2011/12 will be conducted on the refurbished School Pond and you do not need your own equipment to participate in this. It normally takes place on a Thursday evening from 1815 to 1915hrs. This is very much an opportunity for beginners to learn the enjoyable art of casting a fly as well as for more proficient pupils to advance their techniques – there remains a prize for the pupil who can cast a fly further (when using the same equipment) than Mr Glasgow who takes these lessons!!
In the Summer Term there are regular trips to pit the Club’s anglers against the local trout populations. Many years see a competitive inter-house competition involving all the senior houses. Over the last few years, Simpson House has reigned supreme – but last year Ruthven House took over the mantle as the angling house – who will it be next year?
Tight lines!!
