Design Technology

“Design, a word you think you know the meaning of until you try to define it.”
Richard Seymour

The nature of the work covered in Design and Technology at Strathallan is broad; pupils work to a real need and are encouraged to work in a diverse and creative manner to produce high quality solutions. The manufactured artefacts should be able to exist on the market place as viable, functional commercial products.  Academic trips are seen as an important part in the development and understanding of our young designers.

The Department of Design and Technology is housed in a purpose built facility opened in 1987. It is  well equipped and resourced, with recent investments being made in both new IT hardware and CAD/CAM provision. There are dedicated workshop facilities for timber and metal manufacturing; an area within the metal workshop is also available for manufacture in plastics as well as housing a dedicated finishing area.

In addition to the academic successes at certificate level we are extremely proud of the achievements of our pupils in both exhibitions and scholarships at national level.

“People need to understand the value of creativity, technology and manufacturing for the future of design.”
James Dyson
