Economics Trip to the IEA Political Economy Conference 2008
Early on the morning of Thursday 20th November three pupils and their teacher left Strathallan en-route to the Annual IEA Political Economy Conference 2008 in London. Pupils David Cameron, Juraj Sabol and Anastasiya Musiyachenko (pictured right) had been selected to attend this conference.
The day was made up of four lecture sessions prior to lunch. These presentations included such topics as Discrimination in the Labour Market, The Role of the Central Bank and Climate Change. Each session was followed by question and answer time when conference members were able to put their questions to the speaker.
Lunch followed and then we were able to briefly see the sights of Parliament Square. The afternoon debate included contributions from two M.P's, a leading Academic and the President of the Libertarian Alliance. The topic "Consumer Sovereignty in Health and Education" was looked at in detail from various political and economic points of view. Again members of the conference were able to question the panel.
Everyone had enjoyed the day and felt they had something to take back to School. We then had a "whirlwind" tour of some of the sights in London before heading back to Luton for our flight back to Edinburgh.
A similar conference is organised by the IEA later in the year, "The State of the Economy" and we look forward to being able to attend that.
