Shooting - Small Bore Rifle

Small Bore Rifle Target Shooting
Small Bore rifle target shooting in Great Britain has a long history dating back to the 1800’s. Great Britain and the individual home countries have produced numerous World and Olympic champions over the years with the most recent being Scotland winning Gold medals at the Commonwealth Games this year.

The Strathallan small bore shooting section has been up and running within the school now for the past 18 months. In this time all the boys and girls who have attended have progressed from complete beginners to the stage where we have the nucleus of a strong section with some of the teams winning competitions and progressing to the stage now where within the British Schools Association the name of Strathallan School is being recognised as an up and coming force especially at the under 14 age level. The team won the British Schools Division 4 League.

The photograph shows last term’s winning team with their badges - Justin Wong; Heather Larson; Samantha Gray and Keith Wigley. Missing from the photograph is Marcus Freeman.

This term our under 14 shooters have made even more progress with 2 of the team scoring a perfect 100 and being pushed hard by the others. As the coach I am very excited about the competitions coming up next term and the prospect of all the teams improving even further. If there are any others especially those around 12 years old who would like to be part of a winning team and wish to learn how to shoot then speak to Miss Sime and come along.

Who knows YOU might be a future Olympic Champion.
