The two-year period of study which begins in Fourth Form culminates in a National Certification at GCSE or Standard Grade.
At this stage, a broad and balanced curriculum is essential but some choice amongst subjects is necessary. Ability and interest and career ideas are normally the main guiding principles in making choices between subjects, although the only consideration in regard to career choices is not to give up subjects which might be required later.
The following subjects are compulsory for all pupils:
English
Mathematics
At least one Modern Foreign Language (from French, German, Spanish)
Double Award Science
Either History or Geography (or both)
Computing Studies at Standard Grade
The remaining time includes a compulsory lesson in Personal and Social Education.
Pupils are expected to take subjects to fit in the following nine curriculum columns:
