Strathallan School is one of Scotland’s leading independent boarding and day schools, for boys and girls aged 9-18. The School is located on a beautiful campus in 150 acres of rural Perthshire, within 2 hours travel of London and easy reach of Scotland's international airports.
Curriculum
The school aims to provide the best of Scottish education, and the academic achievements of Strathallan’s pupils are among the best in the country. A flexible curriculum is based on the English system but also uses aspects of the Scottish system and Highers are available as a sixth form option. Over 95% of pupils go on to university, with a good number securing places at Oxford and Cambridge.
The teaching staff are committed to the welfare, happiness and success of the pupils. Academic facilities are being constantly upgraded and improved, giving pupils access to the latest technology and learning materials. Recent additions include a new art school, purpose-built design and technology centre, new biology and chemistry laboratories, and an extensive expansion of the School’s ICT facilities.
Extra-curricular Activities
Strathallan offers an unrivalled range of academic, sporting and extra-curricular activities, providing opportunities for each pupil to excel. Every pupil is encouraged to develop fully his/her potential, realising both evident and hidden talents.
The School has a notable record of success not only in academic qualifications, but also in sport, drama, music and art. The facilities, teaching quality and results in these areas match the high standards set in the classroom. The school offers a range of sports including rugby, cricket, hockey, netball, football, athletics, squash, swimming, tennis and skiing. Many pupils choose to learn a musical instrument and there are orchestras, a wide range of ensembles, jazz band, pipe band and choirs. The art school teaches drawing, painting, ceramics and print-making. In addition, there are regular School and House drama productions and an extensive programme of LAMDA award presentations.
Pastoral Care
Six senior boarding houses provide single-study accommodation for all boarding pupils in their last four years, and there is also a junior house, Riley. Residential Housemasters and Housemistresses, along with teams of tutors, are responsible for the pastoral care of individual pupils.
Throughout Strathallan, the supportive environment values each pupil, and places emphasis on the importance of individuality within a team. The ideals of responsibility, tolerance and integrity are developed, encouraging pupils to become happy, confident and well-adjusted individuals, prepared for the challenges of adult life.
The ethos of Strathallan is friendly, disciplined and caring – to bring out the very best in each individual child. The house system ensures a high level of pastoral care and through contact with the Housemaster/mistress, parents remain closely involved.
Scholarships
In addition to academic, all-rounder, music and art scholarships, Strathallan now offers sports scholarships to pupils with outstanding ability in one or more sports.
