Strathallan celebrates exam success
Strathallan pupils have once again achieved excellent results in their GCSE, Scottish Highers and A Level exams.
Exam results do not do full justice to education at Strathallan. They measure absolute performance rather than relative pupil progress and many of our greatest pupil success stories involve students who have overcome challenges, real and perceived, to achieve their potential. Some pupils achieve A* or A grades, others turn a possible D to a B. Each is a success in its own right.
A level - 75% pupils achieved A* to B.
Scottish Highers - 72% pupils achieved A to C
GCSE - 70% pupils achieved A* to B.
At A level we have seen a steady rise in combined A* to B grades since 2014. In 2015 we were named Best School in Scotland for our A*/A results. This year results are also impressive. The proportion of A and A* grades was 39% compared to the UK national average at 25.8%.
In Scottish Highers 72% of pupils achieved an A to C grade. There were 100% rates in Computing Science, German, History, Maths, Music, Physical Education and Spanish.
At GCSE we have seen a consistent performance over the past three years with 16% achieving A* against a UK average of 6.5%. 90% of pupils achieved A to C grade compared with 66.9% UK wide.
The choice of destinations chosen by this year’s Sixth Form reflects the rich diversity of our student body.
Of those who have elected to go straight to university, 63% have stayed in Scotland, 33% have chosen England and 4% are studying abroad. 23% successfully applied to Russell Group universities. As always we are seeing a wide spread of subject choice, from medicine to music.
Others have been selected for internships and apprenticeship schemes, the armed forces or have chosen specialist institutions which include agricultural college and flight training schools.
We wish them all every success in their future careers.
