Brothers compete at European and World Laser-Run Championships
September 25 2019
Congratulations to Blake, Elliot and Jacob H who were involved in both the European and World Laser-Run Championships for Team GB with Blake winning gold in the U17 team.
Laser Run is the exhilarating finale to the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon with athletes required to alternate between shooting a laser pistol and running in a fast-paced and action-packed race to the finish line. Each competitor shoots down the range at a target using a laser pistol before dashing out onto the track to complete their run. They then return to the range to tackle their next shooting series.
The European Laser-Run Championships were held in Weiden, Germany on the 24th of August and lasted 2 days. In Germany, Jacob was 11th individual and 3rd relay in U13, Elliot was 15th individual in U15 and Blake was 7th individual and team first in U17.
The World Laser-Run Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary on the 6th of September and lasted three days. In Hungary, Jacob was 19th individual and 4th team in U13, Elliot was 33rd individual in U15 and Blake was 21st individual.
Blake on his experience at the Worlds:
“The world laser run was being held at the same time as the Olympic qualifiers so whilst we were in Hungary we got to watch the pros do everything we wanted to do which was great and a real inspiration before we raced.”
Blake on his training schedule at Strathallan:
“I am a boarder so I can get more sports in my week. My ‘average’ week is normally 4 swim sessions in the mornings afternoons and evenings of different days totalling 6.5 hours in the pool a week. I run outside of school at a track once a week but go on longer runs once or twice a week totalling 3.5 hours of running. I fence twice a week, once at school and once at a club in Perth, totalling 4 hours fencing. I shoot in school every day at least once or twice for half an hour, sometimes by myself, sometimes other pupils like to come and try it for themselves, I go home most weekends that I’m not competing to ride on the Saturday and Sunday “
