In this year’s SQA examinations, 83.2% of all Higher grades awarded were A-C, 70% A-B, with an even more impressive 88.3% A-C rate at Advanced Higher, with 75% being A-B grades, and 57% of grades achieving As. Notably, every pupil sitting Advanced Higher Chemistry, Economics, Physics and Music achieved an A grade, highlighting Strathallan’s exceptional teaching and commitment to academic rigour.
As a broadly non-selective school, Strathallan continues to outperform national averages, offering an expansive curriculum that spans GCSE’s, Highers, Advanced Highers and A levels, the broadest curriculum offering in Scotland.
Headmaster Mark Lauder praised the achievements saying:
“These results are a testament to the dedication of our pupils and the tireless support of our staff. To see such outstanding outcomes across a wide ability range, in both STEM the Arts and Humanties, alongside such strength in sport and the co-curriculum is what makes Strathallan truly unique.”
Among the standout achievers this year are Captains of School Eve Bergin and Fergus Thompson, who each added a full suite of Advanced Higher A grades to their previous clean sweep at Higher. Eve will take up her place at St Andrew’s University, while Fergus is set to join Strathclyde University.
Fergus Thompson was delighted with his results and said:
“I’m very happy with my Advanced Higher results, three As. Huge thanks to all of my teachers for getting me over the line and to Mrs MacBain for the words of encouragement along the way, to Mr Kalman and Dr Mitchell for explaining quantum physics, and to Mrs Pfupajena for never letting me settle for ‘good enough’ in maths. I’m looking forward to starting at Strathclyde in September with their rugby pre-season starting in a couple of weeks. From Strath to Strath!”
Reflecting on her success, Eve Bergin said:
“I’m absolutely delighted with the results I received this morning and so relieved that all the hard work has paid off. I want to say a massive thank you to my teachers for their unwavering support and guidance — I truly couldn’t have done it without them. I’m now looking forward to starting a new chapter studying International Relations at the University of St Andrews next year.”
Another exceptional performance came from Captain of Music, Eleanor Robb who balanced her academic workload with a significant commitment to music. Eleanor achieved straight A grades at both Higher and Advanced Higher and will now pursue her passion for music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Speaking about her Strathallan journey, Eleanor said
“I was really pleased with my results, achieving three As at Advanced Higher. The school has supported me in developing my musical skills and gaining a place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, all while helping me maintain a high standard in my academic work”.
Commenting on the school’s success, Deputy Head Academic, Mr Andrew Watt added:
“Our pupils continue to show that academic excellence can be achieved alongside sporting, cultural, and leadership opportunities. These results are not only a reflection of their talent, but also their discipline, resilience and ambition.”
As pupils look ahead to their futures in Scotland, across the UK and internationally, Strathallan continues to set the standard for a holistic education rooted in academic success, opportunity, and character development.
