The rising star received the exciting news via email and was thrilled by the opportunity. “I was very excited and couldn’t wait to start playing for Scotland,” said Anna, who has shown remarkable commitment to both her sport and her studies.
Describing the selection as a “very big achievement,” Anna shared her hopes of progressing further within the national pathway, with her sights set on joining the Aspiring Squad in the future.
With fixtures against England on the horizon, Anna has been focused on her physical and mental preparation. “I’ve been fuelling well and watching my loading,” she explained. “I also stay off my phone for an hour before match meets.”
Eager to develop her tactical understanding of the game, Anna is looking forward to testing herself at a new level of competition. “I’m most excited to grow my knowledge of the game and experience international hockey with this team,” she said.
Balancing the demands of elite sport with schoolwork is no small feat, but Anna credits her rest days for helping her stay on top of her academic responsibilities. “I try and catch up with homework on my rest days,” she added.
Representing her country in a match against England is a proud moment for the young athlete. “I feel proud of myself,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to getting closer with the team and learning new things throughout the experience.”
Reflecting on Anna’s selection, Strathallan’s Director of Hockey Gill Green said: “I am absolutely delighted for Anna and incredibly proud of her selection to the Scotland Emerging Squad. She’s a hardworking and committed player, and this is a fantastic opportunity for her to challenge herself on the international stage. I have no doubt she’ll embrace it with the same determination she shows on and off the pitch every day at Strathallan.” — Gill Green, Director of Hockey
