We’ve opportunities for all to take part, and excel, in our exceptional sports programme.
Sport is a big part of everyday life at Strathallan. With two or three afternoon games sessions each week (depending on year group) plus Saturday afternoon, a choice of 32 different sports, and regular inter-school inter-house matches, our pupils are healthy and active.
Our pupils make the most of our 153 acre grounds, enjoying immaculate sports fields, astroturf pitches, a nine-hole golf course, swimming pool, shooting range and numerous indoor and outdoor tennis, netball, hockey and basketball courts. Most importantly, we provide a breadth of sporting opportunities to match every interest and ability.
Our top teams regularly win district and national championships. Our elite athletes achieve at the highest levels, both nationally and internationally, with some progressing to professional sporting careers. In fact, in recent years our pupils have enjoyed international representation in over twenty sports.
Under the guidance of our Director of Sport and coaching staff, our pupils focus as much on their own effort and improvement as on final scores. We also enjoy productive partnerships with professional bodies like Scottish Rugby and Scottish Hockey, adding further strength to our sporting programmes.
A significant focus on inclusion
We take inclusion seriously at Strathallan and believe that representing the School at any level helps confidence and builds a sense of self-worth and pride.
100% of 9 to 15 year olds represented the School in teams
80% of all pupils in Sixth Form participated in sports of some kind.
We never forget that some pupils just want to play for the joy of taking part and we’re able to put out teams at several levels to give pupils experience of competition. Indeed, many Strathallan pupils who didn’t consider themselves athletes when they arrive at the School soon discover new sports and take the opportunity both to enjoy and excel in many varied sports.

Enhanced Sports Programme
Our Director of Sport heads a team of specialist coaches who have top-level experience in their own individual sports. We’re also very fortunate at Strathallan that a large proportion of the teaching staff are also experienced sports coaches, with many having played at a very high level themselves.
In addition to the core games programme, we’ve developed centres of excellence in a number of sports including:
- Clay Pigeon Shooting – led by Eddy Buchan
- Hockey – led by Stephen Dick, Olympian
- Rugby – led by Andrew Henderson
- Swimming – led by Elaine Johnston, Commonwealth Games finalist
- Tennis – led by Tommy Ogilvie
We have a lot of experience of supporting individual pupils who compete at regional, national and international level, optimising their sporting abilities while ensuring they maintain a focus on their academic studies and enjoy a healthy work/life balance.
