Strathallan signs top hockey star

Strathallan School are delighted to welcome Rhett Halkett as Head of Hockey from September 2019. Adding to an already very well qualified team of coaches, Rhett brings with him extensive experience as an elite athlete having played in the 2012 London Olympics for his native South Africa.
Rhett began his International career with the South African National Team in 2009 amassing 157 caps for his country. He competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 followed by the Olympics and the 2014 Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands and finally the Commonwealth Games here in Scotland in 2014. He is an African Cup of Nations Gold Medalist for 2009, 2011 and 2015. After the 2018 World cup he retired from the national team and began his coaching career.
After coaching UHC Hamburg to the final of the European Hockey Club Championships, Rhett will join Strathallan and lead a team of experienced hockey coaches including Stephen Dick a previous member of the Great Britain Hockey Team competing in Bejing 2008 Olympic Games and competing for Scotland in the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Strathallan has produced 4 International hockey players including, Mike Yellowlees, Robert Barr, Nicki Cochrane (current Great Britain squad player) and Jamie Cachia and the senior girls are the current Scottish Indoor Champions. In the 2018/19 season the girls amassed several titles including: 1st XI Champions, Scottish Independent Schools Champions, Midland Indoor Champions and finished top of the School Sports performance league for Senior Hockey in the UK. The junior boys are the current Scottish Champions.
Strathallan have several current Midland team players including Finn Donnelly and Struan Griffiths who have recently represented Scotland at U16 and U18 respectively and Izzy Folan who represented Scotland at the UK School Games 2018.
