Strathallan celebrates outstanding GCSE results

Strathallan pupils are celebrating another outstanding set of GCSE results, with 1 in 4 grades awarded at the highest possible grades 8 and 9 – equivalent to an A* in old money – and setting a new record for the school.

With 40% of all grades at 7-9 (A*A) and a pass rate of over 91%, this reflects the hard work and commitment of pupils and staff across the year group.

These results are particularly pleasing at Strathallan, a broadly non-selective school where academic ambition sits alongside an extensive programme of sport, music, the arts and wider co-curricular opportunities. Strathallan pupils are encouraged to pursue both their academic ambitions and their interests and make the most of life beyond the classroom, with every pupil participating in sport and other activities alongside their academic studies.

Among this year's individual successes is George M, who achieved ten grade 9s (A*s). George’s achievements extend well beyond the classroom; George is also a keen runner, pianist and piper, demonstrating the breadth of opportunity available to pupils at Strathallan and the School's commitment to helping young people develop their talents across many different areas. After receiving his results this morning George said ‘I’m really pleased to have achieved the grades that I wanted and I am especially happy with my results in English. I’m now looking forward to going into 6th form to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at A level.’

Ruby A also achieved ten grade 9’s (A*’s) and a Distinction* in an additional extension Maths qualification. Ruby is involved in 1st team hockey alongside Netball and other extra curricular activities. Ruby said ‘ I am so pleased that all of my hard work has paid off and I would like to say a big thank you to the teachers who went above and beyond to help me, especially outside of class time. I have found it difficult to choose what to study next year as I enjoy lots of different subjects, but at the moment I am planning to take A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry which I am looking forward to starting.

Other outstanding results came from Annabel A, Rory B, Will J, Yan N, Kira P who all achieved a full compliment of A* grades. In addition, Tara C, Lilly G, Paul R and Elin R achieved a full suite of A*/A.

The results reflect Strathallan's belief that pupils should not have to choose between achieving academically and pursuing the activities they love. Whether representing the School on the sports field, performing, playing music, taking part in clubs and societies or developing other interests, pupils are encouraged to embrace the full range of opportunities available to them, achieving a balanced curriculum which raises results through the development of values and character most needed to succeed in and out of class.

The School congratulates all pupils receiving their GCSE results and thanks the teachers, House staff and families whose encouragement and support have helped them reach this important milestone.

Mr Lauder, Headmaster said "We are incredibly proud of this year's GCSE pupils. To see one in four grades awarded at the very highest level is a tremendous achievement, particularly in a school where we encourage every young person to throw themselves wholeheartedly into life beyond the classroom. These results demonstrate that academic ambition and a rich, varied school experience should go hand in hand. Most importantly, behind these statistics are individual young people who have worked incredibly hard, supported one another and contributed enormously to our community. They should be very proud of what they have achieved as indeed we all are."
