Perthshire school becomes the first in Scotland to offer triple option pathway to further education and employment

We are delighted to unveil a unique triple pathway programme for Sixth Form pupils designed to provide choice and flexibility in the face of a diverse range of tertiary education and employment options after school. With the addition of One-year Highers to Sixth Form curriculum options, the school will become the first in Scotland to offer such a wide range of options. The One-Year Highers will be added to the Sixth Form offering from September 2020 and will run alongside the current A-Level and Two-Year Higher options.

With 24 subjects to choose from, this means Strathallan will offer one of the broadest curriculums available in Scotland, as well as the opportunity for pupils to tailor their programme to their strengths, interests, and future study or career goals. In response to pupil demand, a selected number of subjects will also be made available for Advanced Higher from 2021, offering Strathallan pupils breadth, choice and flexibility, as well as a clear route to selective Scottish University courses.

Strathallan’s Headmaster Mark Lauder said:

“With this addition, Strathallan will be able to offer a genuine and unique triple-pathway system and will be the only Scottish boarding school offering both A-Levels and One-Year Highers. For those pupils on course to gain excellent GCSE results and not wishing to limit themselves to one specialism through A-Levels, the Scottish Higher model and its curriculum fit neatly with our philosophy and that of our founder Harry Riley of an academic, holistic, forward-thinking school offering opportunities for all to excel.”

This announcement marks the culmination of a year of academic development at the school, which also saw pupils achieving their best A-Level results in over a decade this summer. Building firmly on these results – an impressive 79% A*-B landing among the top few schools in the country – as well as the school’s enhanced tutoring programme, new scholarship programme and continued investment in teacher resource with a generous 1:7 teacher: pupil ratio, Strathallan aims to offer a truly exceptional educational choice for all pupils. Complementing this with outstanding co-curricular and pastoral support programmes, Strathallan remains true to its core values within a modern context, providing opportunities for all to excel in a fast-moving and increasingly diverse world of work and education.
