William L crowned Strathallan’s Young Musician of the Year 2022

Pianist William L has been crowned Strathallan School’s first-ever Young Musician of the Year in the senior school.

Joining Strathallan School less than a month before the competition was announced, William was settling into life at his new school when he heard about the inaugural competition in 2022.

Competing against a high standard of instrumental music including performances of Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Snarky Puppy, Greig, Poulenc, Bernstein and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. William’s performance of Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude saw him pick up first place.

William said, “I am greatly honoured to be named Strathallan’s Young Musician of the Year. It gives me a lot of confidence and I’m excited to see where music will take me.”

William now joins Jing W, who was named Prep School Young Musician of the Year, as the first pair of pupils to be awarded this accolade at Strathallan.

Director of Music, Jason McAuley said, “Congratulations to William L and Jing W who are our first ever Young Musicians of the Year in the senior and prep school. We had an outstanding night of music-making from our young people. My thanks go to all the instrumental staff for preparing their pupils to such a high level.”
