Creating pathways from Age 8 to 18 (1JJ to Upper Sixth)
All programmes are bespoke to each player, depending on the athlete’s current requirements, goals and ambitions.
Our performance programme works across a wide range of players. Pupils from 1JJ can join the mini tennis groups in Riley and develop their skills during their time at Strathallan by attending drop-in, activities and sessions by invitation. In addition to this performance players shall receive a tailored programme with access to individual coaching with our full-time coach, inclusion in the Talented Athlete Programme, strength and conditioning and support at competitions.
Strathallan offers excellent facilities in which to train all year round. With the Wilson Hall being completed, Strathallan School is now in a unique position in Scotland, being the only school with three indoor courts.
Outside we have nine all-weather harD courts and nine artificial grass courts. The strength and conditioning suite is filled with state-of-the-art fitness equipment from free weights and weight machines to progress monitoring cardio equipment. Access to this area is available to players of all abilities.
In 2017 we extended the performance programme to included ‘Regional Performance Schools Sessions’ run by Adam Brown Tennis Academy at the Gleneagles Arena for those showing ability and desire to enhance their training.
Tennis is also part of the Games Programme in the Summer term, which includes fixtures against other schools and training three times per week. Competitions run over all three terms at 1st team level. Multiple teams run throughout the summer term at all ages plus other local inter-school competitions.
Sessions on offer are:

Tommy Ogilvie – Coach
Tommy has been coaching full-time for over 15 years and is currently an LTA level 3 Coach. During Tommy’s coaching career he has worked with a wide range of ages and abilities, from beginners right through to players winning National Championships.
Before joining Strathallan School full-time in September 2015 Tommy coached at Kinnoull Tennis Club along with his role at Strathallan School. Outside of this Tommy was a co-director of Scottish Tennis Holidays who have successfully run tennis camps locally for many years and was a District Squad Coach.
At Strathallan Tommy has developed a programme from beginner through to regional, county and national level player. Tommy says “For me, the greatest joy of coaching comes from seeing young players improve and grow to love the game. I believe that with hard work, determination and loads of fun along the way, young children can achieve so much and tennis can be a catalyst to build confident and successful people in all walks of life.”
Douglas Tait (2010-2017)
Boys Tennis Captain 2016/17
“Tennis has always been at the forefront of my personal development. The tennis programme at Strathallan has provided me with the opportunity to develop in a challenging but enjoyable environment. I have had individual and group coaching and I have achieved many of my goals, including winning a national title, playing for my district and being selected to represent the North of Scotland. I have thoroughly enjoyed the tennis at Strathallan and it has been a key part of my whoe experience at school.”
Vanessa Stewart (2011-2015)
Girls Tennis Captain 2014/15
“Tennis played a huge role in my time at Strathallan. The extensive tennis programme allows players to engage in frequent individual and group lessons with the coach whose focus is to nurture talent while making tennis fun. Having tennis scheduled for me every day allowed me to maintain a fantastic work – sport balance, make friendships and provided opportunitied for me to play in national tournaments and achieve goals, both individually and as a team. Tennis was, without fail, one of my highlights from school.”
Dr Judith English
“As our son’s commitment to his tennis continues to grow, we have been very pleased by the training opportunities offered through school.
It has been a really efficient use of his time to be able to have one-to-one lessons with Tommy (only a minute away from his classrooms) with focus on his technical skill development. He has been able to train regularly with older players during one of his Games session, and also participate in after-school squad sessions. The Wilson Hall facility has guaranteed year round access to training, which wasn’t always possible at his local club.
This year, the addition of a weekly indoor school-supported session at Gleneagles’ acrylic courts, with performance players from other schools, has added further depth to his training programme. And matchplay experience through tournaments within school, a tennis ladder and inter-school matches have provided a helpful variety of competitive opportunities.
He is pleased he has still been able to chose to play both rugby and hockey matches with his classmates – this ‘cross training’ has definitely helped to maintain the overall fitness which he needs as he grows older and his tennis become increasingly physical.”
Mrs Sarah McLaren
“The Tennis Programme at Strathallan offers my son an excellent platform to enjoy and improve his game every day.
He receives invaluable, frequent one to one coaching with Tommy Ogilvie offering a challenging yet supportive environment.
The indoor tennis facility is great to ensure continuity of lessons year-round which is really important.
My son has been at Strathallan for three years which has seen him make a lot of progress and achieve many goals, the school and Tommy are committed to helping him continue his development.”
